Geography & Earth Science Neckties
| TerraTies celebrate the wonderful variety of pattern, color, and texture found on our earth's surface. Developed directly from NASA space satellite photographs taken far above the earth, these ties show the deserts, coastal waterways, canyons, and rock formations which make up the delicate shell of our planet. | |||

| Rub al Khali Necktie - Silk - $40.00 "Rub al Khali", the world's largest active sand sea covering approximately 220,000 square miles. This desert is located on the Arabian Peninsula and encompasses portions of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman, and Yemen. Also refereed to as the "Empty Quarter", this desolate area contains windswept dunes interpersed with rocky plains and salt flat (sabkha. The world's larges oilfield, "Al-Ghawar", was discovered here in 1948. | |||

| Saharan Stars Necktie - Silk - $40.00 This TerraTie features the distinct star-shaped dunes of the Grand Erg Oriental, a 75,000 square mile sand sea in the Central Saharan Desert. The star configurations are created by winds that blow from all directions, thereby preventing the dunes from taking shape in any dominant orientation. | |||

| Fractured Rocks Necktie - Silk - $40.00 This TerraTie features the highly fractured rocks common to northwest Saudi Arabia near the town of Tabuk. The linear fractures in the rock present surfaces of relative weakness which facilitate erosion by water and wind. The intersection of multiple fractures indicates a potential source of fresh water beneath the surface, a precious resource in this arid region. | |||

| Dry Wadis Necktie - Silk - $40.00 This TerraTie features the dry drainage valleys or "wadis" located in Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula. This landscape is a good example of the relict effect of a previous climate change. Between 17,000 and 35,000 years ago, heavy precipitation allowed the formation of the drainage pattern. During that period, pre-domesticated cattle and hippoptamuses fed on lush vegetation found along many shallow lakes. The region slowly experienced increasing periods of aridity, the most recent being the past 6,000 years. Today, this landscape receives less than three inches of rainfall annually. | |||

| Folded Mountains Necktie - Silk - $40.00 This TerraTie features the contorted, interbedded, sedimentary rocks known as the Anti Atlas Mountains. Located in the southern region of Morocco, it is no accident that these landforms appear similiar to the Appalachian Mountains of the United States. Before the crustal plates of Africa and North America split and drifted apart, these mountain ranges were part of the same continuous formation. |

Jabal Riyadh Necktie - Silk - $40.00 This TerraTie features the linear mountains of Saudi Arabia know as the Jabal Tuwayq. Located just south of Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, the Jabal Tuwayq is the most dominant physiographic feature of the region. Thick layers of resistant limestone dip gently to the east resulting in a north-south mountain ridge or "jabal", that reaches elevations over 3000 feet. The Jabal Tuwayq is almost 1000 miles long. |

Florida Bay Islands Necktie - Silk - $40.00
This TerraTie features the network of bays and scattered cays, or islands, of Florida Bay. Sperated from the Atlantic Ocean by the Florida Keys, Florida Bay has depths that average only three to seven feet. The diversity of habitats support a wide range of flora and fauna including the endangered manatee. | |||
| Ties with a Collectors code number and Manufacturer's name have been gently used by a previous owner. Many of my customers collect ties in specific themes and I help them find treasures. Some ties were given as gifts to the wrong person and get passed on without even being worn. Other ties might have been chosen for a specific occasion and rarely worn again. Consider these ties for a nice price on a beautiful tie that is no longer being printed. | |||
